5 January, 2016 – As the new year begins I would like to take this opportunity to thank our members and industry colleagues for their confidence in our organisation and continued support. It is also a time to reflect on our achievements over the last twelve months and look ahead to 2016.
As Chairman of PIF I am privileged to work alongside a ten-strong board of inspiring industry advocates. Since its launch in 2007 PIF has promoted the prepaid industry, providing a voice for its members and a platform for proponents of the sector.
We also work hard to build consumer confidence in prepaid. We are driven by a belief that prepaid is a responsible way to pay for goods and services and that consumers should be confident in the security of prepaid products and the money that is stored on their behalf.
The high level of participation in our 2015 events is a testament to the success of the PIF leadership and highlights the excellent progress we have made to increase the value of membership. Equally important is the strength of the PIF membership which is a reflection of the services and support PIF provides.
Our most important accomplishments in 2015 were:
1. Strengthening the PIF Leadership
The cornerstone of PIF lies in its governance. Our Board members give generously of their time and expertise, supporting the growth of our organisation and ensuring that PIF is always run for the benefit of members. Last year we welcomed four new members to the Board. The 2015 election attracted the highest number of nominations on record and more member votes than ever before.
2016 Elections: A number of Board members are approaching the end of their three-year terms. Later this month PIF will open nominations for six members to join the Board.
This is an excellent opportunity for members to use their skills and industry knowledge in strategic leadership, representation and good governance towards a common good. All members including our retiring directors are eligible to stand for election or re-election. We look forward to receiving your nominations.
2. Increasing Value for Members
PIF has come a long way in fulfilling its objectives and 2015 was no exception. We have established new committees and working groups to address issues of common concern and organised training workshops to impart industry know-how and best practice to the next generation of industry leaders. And we have successfully established the PIF Innovation Day and PIF Summit as pivotal events in the prepaid industry calendar. We are grateful to our 2015 event sponsors for their support.
Our advocacy work continues unabated. As new and emerging payment services legislation comes into play our dedicated Legal & Regulatory and AML working groups are working hard to assess the impact and ensure our members’ voices are heard.
3. Achieving Positive Media Coverage for Prepaid
The appointment of a PR agency signalled a new era for PIF. Our proactive PR strategy has produced 28 articles with an estimated total readership of 98.3 million across national consumer and business press and key trade publications, gaining positive exposure for members, their products and prepaid. None of this would have been possible without the dedication and expertise of our PA/PR Committee. In 2016 members can expect even more opportunities to take advantage of our PR activity.
4. Launching a New Website and Visual Identity
After many months of planning and development 2015 saw the launch of the new PIF website. Our goal was to make the information and services PIF provides more visible and better known. A new visual identity was also unveiled to more succinctly reflect PIF’s position as a leading voice for prepaid. Our objective in 2016 is to enrich the website further with animated consumer-facing content and enhanced member resources.
5. Strengthening our Global Footprint
On an international level PIF is working to establish a legal entity for its long-established India Chapter which was launched in 2009 under the patronage of TSYS. The chapter will use its new legal status to bolster its dialogue with government agencies and key stakeholders. Not only will members reap the benefits of legal independence they remain a firm fixture in the PIF global community.
The PIF Board of Directors and members continue to do excellent work together and we should congratulate ourselves on our achievements. If you are not a member of PIF I hope the last year has demonstrated the value of working together through PIF can bring to you and your business.
With best wishes for a prosperous 2016.
Chairman, Prepaid International Forum (PIF)
